The village we are building in, Nakanari, is about an hours drive away. So every morning at 7am, we jump in the “Shag-mobile”. (so named as the inside is covered in red velvet and corduroy and there's even a pole for dancing) There’s also a large picture of Jesus in it…which I’m thinking might be the only reason we make it to the site safely?? Today I made the mistake of sitting behind the driver. Most days I just “think” the weaving and passing we do are close calls, but now I “know” they are!!! The only thing we stop for is the holy cows!! (and not my “Holy cow, we almost ran that tuk tuk driver over”)
The inside of the "Shag"...
On the first day, upon arrival of the team, we were greeted by about 50 people from the town. They placed flower garlands around our neck and put red and yellow paint dots between our eye brows. (they also gave us a lime but I’m not sure why?)
We then walked through the small village of 1500 people…and met the six families we are going to be building for…
Although it’s over 30 degrees here, we’re in a very windy place. This area has the largest wind farm in Southeast Asia…from where we are, you can see the windmills every 100 feet for as far as the eye can see…Every so often, it sounds like a jumbo jet is about to land on our hut!
